On most weekends throughout the summer and fall, Buffalo Niagara WATERKEEPER connects you to the water with Buffalo Niagara River Tours. WATERKEEPER provides a variety of hiking, biking, paddling, and boat tours, throughout Erie and Niagara counties, led by knowledgeable docents. Experience the beauty of the Buffalo and Niagara River ecosystems, watch for birds and wildlife in the heart of the City of Buffalo, and learn about what’s happening along the water’s edge.

WATERKEEPER offers tours for more experienced hikers, bikers and paddlers as well as family-friendly tours. Family-friendly tours are generally shorter inRiver Tours length, physically less strenuous, and are appropriate for children 5 years old and up. All children must be accompanied by an adult on all tours.

Buffalo Niagara River Tours are provided in partnership with The Margaret L. Wendt Foundation, Buffalo Tours, and the Buffalo Audubon Society.

Schedules can be found within each category: Hike, Bike, Paddle.

Please register before the day of the Tour (and the sooner, the better). We will need a head count and to send out needed information. In addition, for some Tours additional supplies must be gather, and we can not gather the right amount if we do not know the full head count!

Become a Volunteer Buffalo Niagara River Tour Docent for Next Spring and Summer!

Docent training begins next spring. Docents go through a general training program through Buffalo Tours where they learn about much of the history of Buffalo and the surrounding areas as well as how to give tours and be a good guide. Then docents come to Waterkeeper to be trained on how to give Buffalo Niagara River Tours! Having experience hiking, biking and paddling is a plus but advanced knowledge is not a must.

If you are interested in being a docent fill out our volunteer application and submit it to Kerri Bentkowski ( no later than Jan 1st, 2010.

Thank You to Our Partners in Docent Training:
