Planning & Development

Discover our working and completed plans to restore Western New York’s waterways and their surrounding ecosystems.

Blue Economy Development
Lying at the heart of the Great Lakes with water resources to support recreation, eco-tourism, fish and wildlife, manufacturing, waste processing, power generation, trans-shipment, and drinking water, WNY is an ideal community to advance a “blue economy”.
Freedom Park
The City of Buffalo and Friends of Broderick Park plan future phases of beautification in order to further engage with history and encourage our community to enjoy everything Freedom Park can offer.
Healthy Niagara Watershed Plans
The Niagara River watershed (in New York State) is approximately 903,000 acres and consists of eleven sub-watersheds. Waterkeeper’s initiative in watershed planning aims to help others understand current conditions throughout the Niagara River Watershed.
Niagara River Habitat Conservation Strategy
We’ve completed two planning efforts following the Conservation Action Planning process using a science-based model to evaluate biodiversity features.
Buffalo and Niagara River Habitat Assessment
On the basis of habitat research to date, and with the help of technical advisory, Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper has developed habitat inventories and restoration goals for our two rivers.
