Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper, New York State Parks, Erie County Parks Department and Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center introduce a new Beach Bucket program with a mission to keep our beaches and waterways clean this summer and beyond.
The increasing amount of litter in local parks and beaches is a growing problem causing significant environmental, economic, and human health impacts. As part of a pilot program, there will be stations with beach buckets available at Bennett Beach, Wendt Beach and Beaver Island State Park. Visitors can grab a bucket from the stations and voluntarily pick up cigarette butt litter, plastic bottles and other washed-up debris. The message is simple – take care of our beaches while also discouraging people from leaving their litter behind.
