Birds on Niagara Weekend Features Sunset Walk

Birds on the Niagara Festival is an entire weekend of fun, bird-related events for the whole family! Programs start this Friday and people can learn more by visiting http://www.birdniagara.org/

Our own Claudia Rosen is leading a free bird walk on Saturday, Feb. 18 – sign up to enjoy the sunset and the amazing birds that live along the Niagara River and its shorelines. It will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Spicer Creek Wildlife Management Area.  Registration is required.

The Niagara River and its shorelines provide a haven for an incredible diversity of bird life. This walk will go along the trails at the Spicer Creek Wildlife Management Area on Grand Island to observe birds that remain in the region during the winter. Rosen will talk about the river’s significance for birds, regional efforts to restore habitat using Living Shorelines, and the steps we can all take to be stewards for our waterways in Western New York and beyond.

Please dress for the weather. Spicer Creek WMA has a universally accessible parking area, trail, and two observation decks that are available for people of all abilities. Beginner birders and families are welcome! Binoculars will be available to borrow.
