On Saturday, Aug. 10, Grassroots Gardens WNY is hosting a Soil Health Symposium at its Broadway office garden, in partnership with researchers from the University at Buffalo and multiple community groups. It is from 1 to 3 p.m.
The event is free to attend, but registration is requested.
Soil health and safety is a critical part of urban growing and agriculture, especially with the industrial history of Western New York. Participants can expect to find soil screening and safety resources, remediation tools, a basic workshop on building raised beds (registration required), and learn about innovative research utilizing mycelium (fungal structures) to fix and remediate lead in soil.
