Little Beaver Island aerial view

Little Beaver Island is making the Upper Niagara River look good. The shoreline at Beaver Island State Park on Grand Island was actively eroding due to natural forces such as ice scour and wave action. This Shoreline and Coastal Wetland Habitat Improvement Project stopped the rapid rate of erosion and has created vital near-shore habitat for fish and wildlife. Rock barrier reefs in the water lessen wave energy impacting the shoreline, and the calm water area behind these structures have created more suitable conditions for wetland vegetation.
