A Solo Sweep is a cleanup effort by an individual (or small group) that is completed on their own without the coordination of Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper. These Solo Sweeps can take place anywhere, anytime, and people track litter collected by using the Ocean Conservancy’s Clean Swell app.
The Clean Swell app makes it easy to enter trash during a cleanup. Open the app, enter your name where it says “Group name,” and you are ready to go.
Some people find it easier to work together, with one person picking up trash while another records the data in Clean Swell. There are simple icons to click for things like plastic bottles or cigarette butts to enter multiple items at once.
After you are done for the day, click “Finish this Cleanup” to record the information.
Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper staff will then be able to track your work and keep a tally of it during the Solo Sweep Challenge.
